Modesto, CA – Last week gas prices in California shot up more than $.50 per gallon across the state, impacting middle class families dramatically. But with Hypocrite Congressman Jeff Denham receiving more than $80,000 in contributions from Big Oil and Gas – how can we trust anything he says about rising gas prices now?

“It’s times like these that the Valley needs a real leader who will work hard to find consensus solutions to the big problems our country faces,” said Jose Hernandez, candidate for Congress in California’s 10th Congressional District. “But, instead of standing up to Big Oil, Congressman Denham has been in the tank for them. He’s taken more than $80,000 from Big Oil and returned the favor by giving them billions in taxpayer giveaways on top of the billions in profits they are making at the expense of Central Valley families who are paying more than ever at the pump.”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Modesto, CA – Today, the Jose Hernandez for Congress Campaign released a new ad. The ad, concerning women’s health care, highlights Denham’s unbelievable efforts to redefine rape and his repeated stances against providing women such basics as maternity care and breast cancer coverage.

“I am very proud of my career as an Astronaut, but the part of my career I’m most proud of is developing full field digital mammography,” said Jose Hernandez, candidate for Congress in California’s 10th Congressional District. “I know how important it is for women to have every option available in order to lead healthy lives. Congressman Jeff Denham has decided to take away some of those options from the women of our Valley. Instead of standing up for the women of the Valley, Jeff Denham has simply followed down the path set by the partisan Washington establishment.”

Modesto, CA – Congressman Jeff Denham has had his deceitful ad on Medicare called into question by John Meyers of News 10 Sacramento. News 10 referred to the ad as “political spin” and called it off base suggesting that Congressman Denham is stretching the truth.

“Congressman Denham’s position on Medicare and his attacks have now been called into question by two separate independent media sources in the Central Valley,” said Dan Krupnick, Campaign Manager, Jose Hernandez for Congress. “The Modesto Bee has said that Congressman Denham was not ‘forthcoming’ and News 10 made it very clear that his Medicare ad is ‘political spin.’ It’s becoming clear: Congressman Denham can’t defend his repeated efforts to end Medicare as we know it, so he’s willing to launch untruthful ads to try to confuse voters and cover up what he did.”

Modesto, CA – Today, Congressman Jeff Denham pulled his untruthful ad that contained an improper disclosure from the airwaves in the Central Valley. Congressman Denham tried to mask his Medicare position behind a statement that Politifact calls “Pants on Fire.”

“Congressman Jeff Denham wasn’t honest to the FCC, and he certainly hasn’t been honest to voters in the Central Valley about his Medicare position,” said Dan Krupnick, Campaign Manager, Jose Hernandez for Congress. “Congressman Denham tried to hide his plan to end Medicare behind a known lie, and he even tried to attack Jose Hernandez for supporting Medicare savings he voted for. With all this double-talk, no wonder the Modesto Bee said Congressman Denham hasn’t been ‘forthcoming’ about his position. As President Bill Clinton said, ‘It takes some brass to attack a guy for doing what you did…’ but the FCC, and voters, see through Congressman Denham’s politics as usual.”

Questions People Should be Asking Congressman Jeff Denham About the Denham/Ryan Medicare Plan

Modesto, CA – Today in the Modesto Bee, Congressman Jeff Denham said that the Denham / Ryan plan was “a very clear plan” for Medicare—a plan that the Wall Street Journal said “essentially ended Medicare.” As the Modesto Bee pointed out, Denham continues to be less than “forthcoming” with concerned seniors worried about the “controversial and untested voucher system.”

As Congressman Denham enjoys his five-week, taxpayer-funded vacation, reporters should be asking him more about the Denham / Ryan plan:

- How can Congressman Denham say “If you’re 55 or older, there would be absolutely no change whatsoever to Medicare” when the plan would begin affecting millions of seniors almost immediately? [National Journal, 6/6/11]

- How can Congressman Denham say with a straight fact that the Denham / Ryan plan “just gives people a choice,” when studies show that the typical 65-year-old’s out-of-pocket health care costs will increase $6,400? [Congressional Joint Economic Committee, 5/20/11]

- Does Congressman Jeff Denham really that believe the Modesto Bee and Wall Street Journal are “creating hysteria” with their unbiased opinions that the plans are controversial and “essentially end Medicare”? [Wall Street Journal, 4/4/11]

Hopefully over the course of the next few weeks Congressman Denham will stop trying to hide behind “hysteria” and actually admit to the details in the Denham / Ryan plan that will end Medicare.

Congressman Denham, as a Romney California Co-Chair, is going to have to explain to voters why he continually votes for Paul Ryan’s drastic cuts to Medicare in favor of protecting tax breaks for millionaires and corporations that ship good American jobs overseas when the Central Valley’s unemployment rate is so high.

In Congress, I will always represent the Central Valley first. Unlike Congressman Denham, I will not support any plan that balances the budget on the backs of seniors or the middle class.”

Why Not Add One More Day to a Five Week Paid Vacation?

Congressman Jeff Denham begins his Congressional Recess with a lot of work left to do.

Modesto, CA – Today, a day earlier than originally planned, begins a five-week taxpayer funded vacation for Congressman Jeff Denham, and he plans to leave Washington without getting much done—again. Meanwhile, the Central Valley continues to cope with a devastating foreclosure crisis and an unemployment rate that is nearly twice the national average. Farmers are also facing increasing uncertainty because of Congress’ failure to pass a real farm bill.

“Congressman Denham purports to be a local farmer, yet leaves Central Valley farmers hanging without passing the farm bill they need right now,” said Jose Hernandez, a Democratic candidate for Congress in California’s 10th Congressional District. “Congressman Denham and the Republican leadership seem more interested in playing politics than just working with both parties to get it done for our Valley.”

With our Valley facing some of the highest levels of foreclosures and unemployment nearly double the national average, you’d think Congressman Denham would have done more to help the Valley get back on its feet. I hope Congressman Denham enjoys his five-week, taxpayer-funded vacation while the rest of the Valley continues to struggle.”
